The girl is young, in her early teens. the man she barely knows is by comparison, rather old, in his forties. The older man drugs the girl, and rapes her multiple times, and in multiple different ways. In most cases upon seeing something like this, we would be outraged, and those that have daughters would either be loading there guns, or heading to the nearest hardwhere store to purchase one. But when the rapist is an award winning movie director, well … OK … he probably shouldn’t have done that, but it’s OK.
NO, it’s not ok!
After this story from the nineteen eighties resurfaced, America has been forced to take a good long look at itself, and in my opinion, what we’ve seen isn’t pretty. Why people are defending Polanski, is a true mystery to me. Again, the girl was in her early teens, and she was drugged. Which means, even if she gave her consent to the sex, it was still rape. Never mind the age difference which I will get to in a bit, the girl was drugged by an older, stronger man. It is my Hope, that Roman “the Rapist” (Allegedly) Polanski be extradited to the United States AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, to face some long over due justice.
Seriously, how can anyone argue that Rapin Polanski should not be prosecuted for this crime. Regardless of how long ago it took place, or of how many good movies he’s made in the past generation? OK, true, the victim now a grown woman with a family of her own, is urging the charges to be dismissed so she can get on with her life.
The law of the United States as with nearly all western nations, says that a girl in her early teens is not mentally mature enough to choose to have sex with a much older man. The same is true for a boy with a much older woman.
Now that the victim is of legal age where it can be reasonably expected that she is able to choose the type of sexual life she wishes to live, I believe that we should take her wishes in to consideration. What she went threw was undoubtedly traumatic. If she has moved on, and does not wish to return to that period of her past, GREAT, and Understandable. But the law, in all of its idiocies, exists for a reason.
What kind of message would we send to other older men that drug people that the law calls children. Should everyone simply get a free ride? I think on this, virtually all of us can agree, the answer is most certainly Not.
Roman Polanski admitted to sexually assaulting the girl, for a lighter sentence. He states, that the prosecution went back on its side of the deal, forcing him to flee the country.
If this is true MR. Polanski, you have a couple of dollars to your name, higher an attorney, and return to the US with the protection granted to any citizen of France, and clear up this matter. What innocent man falsely accused of that type of violent crime would not want to clear his good name? Perhaps someone with a lot of money, who is worried that because of the seriousness of the charges will not get a fair shake by the legal system? But that man is Not Roman Polanski. Rapist Polanski has money, he has notoriety, and even the citizenship in a friendly country. He also has a victim who apparently wants nothing more than to see all this go away.
For the sake of his fans that have been for reasons of their own defending him in these past weeks, Polanski should return to the United States, clear up this matter which surely is an embarrassment to him, and get on with the rest of his life.
But Rapine Polanski is not doing that. He instead is allowing the knowledge that he admitted to at the very least sexually assaulting a minor, splash across TV screens the world over. MR. Polanski, you look guilty as Hell, and as someone with a younger sister, I want to see you punished.
Recently, a petition went around Hollywood California, asking for the charges against admitted sexual predator Roman Polanski be dropped.
According to both MSNBC, and CNN, none of the people that signed the list has a daughter.
Our hearts go out to the victim, and, we all wish her the best in her life, and that she can get threw this difficult period in her life as quickly and as gently as possible. Those that persist in bothering her, and bringing health issues, are no better than admitted sexual predator Polanski, and it is my senior hope, that those that persist in bothering the victim of a a violent crime as well as the animal that perpetrated the violent crime be forced to pay the maximum under the law, again, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
Now we come to a much different issue, but one that has been razed in all this controversy. The victim in this particular situation was in her early teens. The charges against Polanski, are not just dealing with the crime of an adult on a minor, but also of drugging, and sexual assault with permission of any kind, how ever you look at it, it still comes out to a charge of rape. But as some have argued with no real knowledge upon the subject, that the girl did give her permission. Currently, under the law, the answer would be, So What?! She was a minor, Polanski was over 18, as far as the law is concerned, open and shut. Bye-bye Roman, and watch for those showers!
But, with out intending it, the defenders of Polanski have brought up a topic which I feel must be addressed, and sooner rather than later.
At what age, is a person mature enough to engage in a sexual relationship? Twenty years ago, when this crime took place, most people would have readily admitted that it was older than the victim here. But now? Although I have never met anyone my self, I do personally know more than one person that knows a girl under the age of ten that has not only developed breasts larger than many a grown woman, and have started their periods.
I seriously doubt that many would argue that a girl of eight or nine is a woman. Even with the blood and the boobs, her body in all likelihood is not developed enough to handle a growing baby. However, she is certainly aware that her body has changed, and by time of her early teens, she is very likely quite capable of making the decision to have sex. And, if she is capable of making that decision, why should there be limit on the age of the person she can choose from.
If a 13 year old girl chooses to have sex of what ever kind with a man in his forties, is that acrime? Not under the law, under the morals.
Many girls are physically women well before the age of 13, and many boys are also at least sexually, men at the same age.
Currently, only two states, Iowa and South Carolina allow a girl-woman under 15 to make up her mind. But if that girl, or boy, has sexually been an adult since say the age of eight if not younger, isn’t it reasonable to assume that at least in a few cases, that by the age of 13, they are capable of choosing what they want to do with there own bodies?
My Grandfather’s parents died when he was 12. He was largely on his own from that time on. He did the work of a man, received the pay of a man, and well before he was 16, was treated like a man by every one except the government he fought for in the second World War. The government he paid taxes to for at time, nine years, considered him a child. I never asked, and he never said, but I feel safe in guessing if my grandfather when at the age of say 13, ahd been (accosted) by an older woman that he found attractive, having given his permission for her to shall we say do like they do on the discovery channel, he would have returned home feeling many things, traumatized Not being one of them.
Now children a third my grandfather’s age are capable of acting like adults in the matter of the flesh. To continue to treat them as children, can not be a help to their mental health. They are not children! TRUE, they are Not adults, but the law Must grant then the respect that is due people of their status. What that status is, or just how much respect should be given them, has not even been considered, and for the health of millions, it is long over due for our laws to be revised.
It is Very likely, that a school teacher weather man or woman that hits on a child in there early teens, or even younger, is not in the mental sense, hitting on a child. Certainly, in more and more cases, they are not hitting on a child in the physical sense.
Are they abusing their authority? CERTAINLY. Should they lose their jobs? Absolutely. But jail for years? In this time in our countries history, I say NO.
I have known many people that have literally been approached by apparently men and women for purposes of sex in a time and place to suggest that they are over the age of 18, and certainly their bodies look like they are over that magical age. Yet the next day, Knock, Knock, Knock. You are under arrest for sex with a minor. What the fuck? Or a similar phrase is likely to be the person’s response.
Roman Polanski did not ask permission, therefore, the situation is black and white. he committed a very serious crime, and he Must pay the consequences for his actions. But for others, who did ask and did get permission, and quite often thanks from the (victim) In many cases, they committed no crime. Our country is outdated in it’s laws. People are not simply kids or adults, more and more, they are something else, and it is Long over due for our legal system to take that in to consideration.
For the health of this rapidly emerging generation, it is my hope and my prayer, that the legal system will move to give them the help, the protection, and the respect they deserve.
